UNBOXING EXPERIENCE

All our products are delicately packaged in a special paulownia wooden box, crafted with care in Ishikawa Prefecture, Japan.

Paulownia wood has held immense value in Japan since ancient times, prized for its exceptional quality and versatility. It has been utilized in crafting everyday items like clogs, chests of drawers, and paulownia boxes, as well as in creating kagura masks and tools used in Shinto rituals, such as the Koto.

When thinking of paulownia wood, its defining features include its lightweight nature, the smooth white surface it boasts, and the warm sensation it offers upon touch. Moreover, this wood is recognized for its moisture-regulating and heat-insulating properties due to its unique structure, as well as its natural resistance to insects and bacteria, making it an ideal choice for various applications.

Our original paulownia boxes, exclusively sourced and harvested in Japan, are meticulously assembled by skilled Japanese craftsmen. As a result, unlike products made outside Japan, our boxes exude a natural and rich wood scent that adds to their unique appeal.

The bottom right corner of the box bears the "福" character, symbolizing happiness, good luck, and fortune. This character originates from a pictogram depicting a barrel of sake offered to the gods, signifying our wish for happiness through the act of offering sake to the divine.

Furthermore, Japanese craftsmen meticulously chamfer each edge of the box, ensuring a remarkably comfortable grip that might pleasantly surprise you. The level of sophistication in their technique is evident in the ability of the object to be supported solely by its edges, as depicted in the picture below.

Paulownia wood, cherished throughout history for its exquisite beauty, warmth, and functionality, holds a unique appeal as a material for contemporary daily essentials.

The very aura surrounding it becomes a work of art in itself. Indulge in the sheer delight of a premium unboxing experience.

The difference between Japanese and non-Japanese paulownia wooden box

Non-Japanese box

  1. The wood is immediately turned into boards and artificially dried after being cut down
  2. It undergoes immersion in a specialized chemical pool to remove lye
  3. The creation process does not demand advanced skills or extensive craftsmanship
  4. From logging to plank-making, it takes only a few days to a few months
  5. These boxes employ a significant amount of bleach and preservatives, resulting in an unacceptable chemical odor that permeates the contents. Moreover, they are unable to withstand Japan's hot, humid, seasonal environment, leading to cracking and bending

    Japanese box

    1. The wood is left to dry outdoors after harvesting, exposed to rain and snow for several years
    2. The manufacturing process requires specialized techniques and experience, resulting in higher production costs
    3. It takes 3 to 5 years from felling the trees to the final production of the boxes
    4. The high density of the wood creates a tight seal, leaving no gaps for moisture or pests, eliminating the need for preservatives or insect repellents
    5. As a consequence, these boxes are exceptionally well-suited for storing valuable items such as kimono, art, and jewelry

The paulownia wooden box has an overwhelming difference from other boxes in that it can enhance the luxury and value of the "contents" while showing the presence of the "box" itself.
